Tributes have been paid across the political divide to a key member of Kerry County Council management who is retiring.
John Flynn who is Director of Corporate Services and Manager of the South and West Municipal District will retire at the beginning of next month.
John Flynn who is from Stradbally has worked with the local authority in the county for 10 years having previously served across the border in Cork.
Mr Flynn lives in Brandon with his wife Marguerite and told councillors at his last meeting of the local authority it was his dream to return to work in his native Kerry.
The father of two said he plans to spend time with his beloved grandson, travelling, golfing and gardening.
Mr Flynn was described as the back bone of the county council and was praised for his expertise, intelligence and dedication to public service.
Chief Executive of the council Moira Murrell said Mr Flynn was a great democrat.
Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council Pat McCarthy said Mr Flynn was the precursor to Google and always had an answer.
