Travelling RoseThe Kerry Traveller Health Community Development Project say they do not endorse the Travelling Rose event.

However, the traveller representative group fully support the right of any group of people to organise an event in Kerry.

The Travelling Rose of Ireland competition, which is taking place in Listowel this weekend, is the first of its kind in the country.

It’s a charity event to raise funds for the survivors of the Carrickmines halting site fire and for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Garda Superintendent Dan Keane says extra Gardaí will be deployed in the town for the festival, similar to policing procedures for other big events.

The Travelling Rose festival is expected to bring hundreds of people to the town, however, Superintendent Keane adds the projected number of visitors is not a cause for alarm.
