« BackTralee man urges politicians to restore bereavement grant

A Tralee man says rather than arguing about who should attend funerals,  politicians should focus on restoring the bereavement grant.

Paddy Kevane hit the headlines earlier this year when he campaigned to get his late sister Breda a hospital bed.

In 2013, the bereavement grant, which was worth 850 euro to help families with unexpected funeral costs, was cut.

In recent days a war of words broke out between Cllrs Michael Cahill and Johnny Healy-Rae about politicians attending the funerals of people they don’t know and distributing funeral packs.
