A Tralee homeowner has warned residents to increase security to prepare to defend their homes from attack.
Faiq Shaikh, his wife and two young children – aged five years and 10 months – were awoken from their sleep in the early hours of last Friday morning.
Mr Shaikh saw two men outside and opened the door – one of the men tried to forcibly gain entry.
He closed the door but the men tried to break it down, shouting obscenities and threatening violence.
Mr Shaikh managed to keep the men at bay and telephone Gardaí.
It has since emerged the attack on the home may have been a case of mistaken identity.
This however, according to Mr Shaikh, is irrelevant.
Mr Shaikh described the attack as a violation – and says his family have been left traumatised.
