Tralee Gardaí are investigating an incident in Ballymullen which occurred sometime on Sunday night or the early hours of Monday morning.
Red paint was discovered splashed over the recently erected Munster Fusiliers monument.
There was some controversy surrounding the erection of the monument; a number of republicans were dissatisfied with its location near the barracks, while others other believed it should honour all Irish men who died fighting in the wars.
The paint has been cleaned since with no permanent damage caused to the marble structure.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
