« BackTralee based company to become part of major international travel business

A Tralee-based company is to merge with a UK firm in a deal which’ll see the amalgamated business with annual sales of 400 million pounds sterling.

Portman Travel

Portman Tralee, which has a training academy and international operations centre in Tralee, is to merge with Clarity Travel Management.

Clarity Travel Management

Portman Travel employs around 50 people in Tralee out of a total of 390 staff based in Ireland, the UK and the Netherlands.

Mawasem Travel and Tourism, which owns Clarity Travel Management, has bought Portman Travel for an undisclosed sum, paving the way for the merger of Clarity and Portman.

Clarity’s chief executive, Pat McDonagh, says the merger will allow them to compete for global travel business.

He says Portman’s operation and training academy in Tralee, which he describes as ‘excellent’, as critical to delivering their plans for growth.

The new business’s headquarters will be in Manchester.

Mr McDonagh says this offers easy access to the training academy in Kerry.

The new business will have combined annual sales of 400 million pounds sterling and will employ around 700 people in Ireland, the UK and the Netherlands.
