A young man from the Spa in Tralee remains in a critical condition at Beaumont Hospital after falling from a balcony in Galway on Wednesday night.
19-year-old Jack McCarthy was taken to Galway University Hospital but later transferred to Dublin.
His family is very well known in the Tralee area. Mr McCarthy was seriously injured when he fell from a balcony at the Dún na Coiribe apartment complex on the Headford Road in Galway at around 11.30pm on Wednesday. The first-year student at NUI Galway was rushed by ambulance to Galway University Hospital but later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where he remains in a critical condition. Jack’s father Kevin, who is a senior manager for the Garvey’s supermarket group in Tralee, and his mother Catherine are by his bedside. Jack is the oldest of four children and worked in the off-licence at Garvey’s SuperValu in Tralee during the summer. Parish priest of The Spa, Fr Eamon Mulvihill said Jack and his family were in the thoughts and prayers of the entire community. He added that he was being remembered at all Masses in the parish.
