Fine Gael TD Sean Conlan has been released without charge after he was earlier arrested in connection with an alleged pub assault in Co Monaghan.
The Cavan-Monaghan TD presented himself by appointment at Castleblayney Garda Station this morning. Deputy Conlan says he’ll be making no further comment on the matter. Sean Conlan was arrested by appointment at Castleblayney Garda Station at 9.30 this morning – where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He was questioned in connection with an alleged assault at the Conlan family pub in Ballybay on Sunday August 23rd – during which Gardaí say a man in his 20s received minor injuries. It’s understood Mr Conlan made a statement to Gardaí – claiming a man was abusing him in the pub on the night. Deputy Conlan was released without charge at about half past 1 this afternoon – and a file is to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions. In a statement, he says he presented himself voluntarily to give a statement of complaint – and says he co-operated fully with the Gardaí. He says that as the matter is still under investigation – he won’t be making any further comment.
