A Dingle woman who assaulted a garda at a cinema last July had been acting out of ‘misguided loyalty’, the district court heard.
Olivia McDonnell of 7 Cluain Ard Dingle pleaded guilty to assaulting Garda John Coffey at the Omniplex Cinema, Dan Spring Road, Tralee on July 24th last.
She also pleaded guilty to using threatening or abusing behaviour and wilfully obstructing Garda John Daly on that date.
Sergeant Kieran O’Connell said she had ‘lunged’ at the garda as he tried to arrest a man who was fighting with another man.
Her solicitor Pádraig O’Connell said Ms McDonnell was abhorred by her behaviour and had cut all links with that individual.
Judge James O’Connor sentenced her to two months, suspended for two years on condition she is of good behaviour towards the gardaí.
She was fined €275 for the public order offence and the other matter was taken into consideration.
