On-street trading in Kenmare is now a free-for-all and resembles Piccadilly Circus.
Local councillor, Dan McCarthy says that in the absence of long-promised bye-laws on the matter, stalls are now two and three abreast in the town and are preventing people from accessing established businesses.
New bye-laws were due to go out to public consultation last January but it will now be at least the end of the year for this process begins – resources permitting according to Kerry County Council.
A legal challenge over trading rights was withdrawn late last year and a full review of the matter is being carried out by a senior counsel.
Cllr Dan McCarthy says there have been too many delays in resolving the issue and it is driving people out of the town.
