The makers of Star Wars VIII are in the final stages of their film shoot on Skellig Michael off the south Kerry coast.
Following another successful day of filming on the UNESCO world heritage site, the main cast and crew members are expected to leave Portmagee over the next 24 hours.
Actors including Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley are rumoured to be staying locally for the duration of the shoot.
Much of the filming on Skellig Michael yesterday took place at dusk with some of the boats not returning to the pier at Portmagee until almost 11pm.
Among the actors on site is Jimmy Vee, who it’s understood, replaces Kenny Bailey as R2D2 in Star Wars VIII.
The actor who plays Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill has also been spotted around Portmagee.
Reports from the island suggest that the director, Rian Johnson, is happy with the shoot so it’s expected the filming may be wrapped up either this evening or tomorrow.
Star Wars merchandise has begun to appear in local outlets as retailers look to cash in on the movie blockbuster phenomenon.
Those working in tourism are already reporting an increase in the number of visitors to the area as a result of the shoot, suggesting that the Force is with them in south Kerry.
