A Listowel-based company that operates speed camera vans for the Gardaí received over €17 million in payments last year.
Go Safe, which is owned by a Kerry consortium, registered as an unlimited company after 2012. which means it’s no longer required to file annual accounts, the Irish Independent reports.
In 2009 the firm secured the €80m contract to operate the speed camera network but that contract expires in November.
The speed cameras are supposed to operate on roads where there is a history of road accidents.
However, their operation has come under the scrutiny of Irish district courts, which have questioned the company’s authority to help prosecute speeding cases.
