Staff at SouthDoc are expecting to see up to 7,000 patients during the Christmas period.
That’s according to Director of the service in Kerry, Dr Garry Stack, who says the festive period is always the busiest time of year for the out-of-hours GP service.
On an average week, about three and a half thousand people require the service – which covers Kerry and parts of Cork.
But this spikes to more than six thousand during Christmas week, and about five thousand over the new year period.
Dr Stack says the service kicked in at 1pm today, and will be available throughout Christmas.
