Gardaí in Sligo have launched a murder investigation following the death of a woman in the town this morning.
At about half ten, gardaí were called to a house on Mailcoach road in the town, where officers came across a man -in his early thirties – who was carrying a knife. The man was tasered by members of the Regional Support Unit.
Medical attention was given to the man – and a woman in her early 20’s – who was found in the house. Both were taken to Sligo Regional Hospital and the woman was pronounced dead shortly after 11 this morning.
The scene was preserved for a technical examination. No arrests have been made.
Local journalist with the Sligo Weekender newspaper, Luke Henderson, describes the scene.
