A father named on a child’s birth certificate fails to solve issues such as maintenance, and in fact can cause more problems between the parents.

That’s according to Sharon Roche, a single mother-of-four, who believes legally forcing fathers to put their names on birth certificates will not make any difference.

 

The Civil Registration Amendment Act 2014 places a duty on the father to place his name on the birth certificate of his child.

 

The Act has been passed, but the requisite part has not been enacted, meaning it is not yet required by law to put the name of the father on the cert.
