« BackShannon LNG signals withdrawal from north Kerry gas terminal project

The company behind the proposed liquefied natural gas terminal for north Kerry has again signalled the end of its involvement in the project.
Shannon LNG – which is a subsidiary of the Hess Corporation – has filed accounts which suggest that unless a new investor can be found, the €600m project could be in jeopardy.

According to the Irish Examiner, Hess is set to withdraw from the plan to develop the plant on the Tarbert-Ballylongford landbank.

It has already sunk €63 million into the plan and says substantial investment would now be required to bring it to fruition.

Hess first secured planning permission for the terminal in 2008 but since then the project has been beset by a series of legal and bureaucratic delays.
