The proposed Shannon LNG terminal near Ballylongford is the only specific reference to Kerry in the new Programme for Government published yesterday.
The Government remains supportive of the proposal and has committed to requesting the National Dialogue on Climate Change to examine if there are ways to facilitate liquid natural gas on the island of Ireland.
It notes that while the prospect of the facility would be a positive step for Ireland, regulation of the gas market is the responsibility of the Energy Regulator.
Fine Gael councillor Jim Finucane says it’s disappointing the reference to the project is ‘vague’.
He says the backers of the project deserve a greater level of commitment.
