Radio Kerry has received seven nominations in this year’s National PPI Radio Awards.
The station is currently PPI Local Radio Station of the Year and won two other awards at last year’s ceremony. Radio Kerry was shortlisted in the news story category for coverage of the Star Wars shoot on Skellig Michael compiled by journalist Owen O’Shea. The TalkAbout programme presented by Deirdre Walsh has been nominated in the best magazine programme section. Kerry Today presented by Jerry O’Sullivan has been shortlisted in the best current affairs programme category. The Radio Kerry sports team’s coverage of last year’s All Ireland Senior Football campaign is in the running for best sports story while Weeshie Fogarty has been shortlisted in the sports broadcaster category. Dáithí McMahon and Fred O’Connor’s drama about the Lusitania has also been nominated. Radio Kerry has also secured a nomination for best station imaging created by John Herlihy, the Kerry ETB students of radio broadcasting, Alan Finn and Shane O’Connor. The awards will take place in a gala ceremony in Galway on October 9th.
