Kerry Senator Ned O’Sullivan has spoken publicly for the first time about his battle with alcohol.
In an interview on Radio Kerry, the Listowel man revealed that he made the decision at the start of this year to quit drinking, as it was seriously affecting his health and career.
Separate to this, the Fianna Fail Senator also had a serious accident during the summer, which left him fighting for his life, with a punctured lung and 12 broken ribs.
Speaking on the TalkAbout programme on his first day back in the Seanad, he paid tribute to the health services for getting him back on his feet after the accident:
