A Kerry senator is calling for the realignment of a notorious stretch of road in Rathmore that has been the scene of numerous accidents, one of which was fatal.
Fine Gael senator Tom Sheahan says the realignment of The Stagmount Bends on the N72 is the only option that will eliminate the danger posed to motorists.
In a feasibility report submitted to the National Roads Authority, Kerry County Council has identified three options.
These include carrying out immediate works including the erection of a crash barrier, signage and new road markings, costing approximately €170,000.
Realigning the road is the most expensive option, costing approximately €2.25 million.
But Senator Sheahan believes this is the only viable option to eliminate the high incidence of accidents at that location.
