Fears were growing for the whale, thought to be female, and the weakest of three that had become stranded at Gowlane Strand near Strabally this morning.

All three had been returned to sea by a group of local volunteers before 10am but had not left Brandon Bay and got into distress again before lunch.

Senior aquarist with Dingle Oceanworld and volunteer strandings co-ordinator with the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, Louise Overy, says they’re now hopeful the latest rescue effort was successful.
