A search is continuing for a fisherman who fell overboard from a Spanish trawler south west of the Blasket Islands.
The 46 year old Spaniard was onboard a boat operating from Castletownbere in West Cork. The fisherman was reported as falling overboard from the Spanish registered vessel Peixemar Dos around 6.30 last night around 40 nautical miles off the Kerry coast.
The Valentia RNLI lifeboat was launched and the Shannon Coastguard Helicopter was also tasked to the scene. However the helicopter was forced to return to base due to poor visibility.
At 2.40am the naval vessel the LE Aisling took over the search and it along with the Spanish vessel is continuing to look for the missing man.
The Shannon Coastguard Helicopter is also due to return to join the operation this morning. Valentia Coastguard is coordinating the rescue.
