The site of a Kerry creamery which closed at the weekend should be handed over to the community for local use.
That’s according to Noel Murphy of the ICMSA, who made the suggestion following the closure of Castlemaine Creamery.
The creamery employed 60 people at its peak, was the hub for eight sub-branches, and once had over 2,000 milk suppliers
But it operated only as a Farm Shop in recent years.
Kerry Group says that they have invested in a revamped Farm Shop in Killorglin which will now serve the greater mid-Kerry area.
But Noel Murphy, from Milltown, says as was done with the Denny site in Tralee, Kerry Group should consider handing over the site to the community:
