A letter written by Roger Casement to the de Villiers family of Cape Town in 1913 is for sale in an online auction.
In the 8 page letter valued at around 4,500 euro, Roger Casement who was executed by the British for treason in 1916 predicted his own down fall.
He wrote; “I fully expect to end my days in jail”.
The Dubliner who was a British diplomat also expressed his disillusionment with the British empire and claimed that Irishmen were being sent to jail for writing their names in Irish.
In 1916 Mr Casement was arrested in Banna Beach after attempting to import arms from Germany.
He was tried and then executed for treason.
