There has been a reduction of 19 outdoor council workers in the Dingle, Cahersiveen, Kenmare and Killorglin roads’ departments, since the introduction of a moratorium on hiring.
The figure was released in response to a query posed by Cllr Michael Cahill on outdoor staffing levels in the South & West Kerry Municipal District.
Kerry County Council says the reduction mainly came about through retirements.
The council says it’s reviewing outdoor staff levels and has appointed a number of General Services Supervisors and Foremen on a permanent basis.
Panels for General Operatives have also been formed internally and additional staff have been employed under temporary contract from these panels.
Outdoor staff levels will be reviewed again in 2017 having regard to the funding available.
