« BackReport highlights cigarette smuggling

A new report claims smuggled cigarettes are ‘the new cocaine’ trade of the early 21st century.
The research estimates nearly 1 in 4 cigarettes is part of an illegal trade that’s costing the exchequer a quarter of a billion euro a year. It was submitted to Kerry Fine Gael Senator Paul Coghlan, who has been investigating cross-border activity in the area, and the report says the law isn’t being enforced rigorously enough.
