The great-great-great-grand-daughter of Daniel O’Connell has donated memorabilia to the Kerry archives.
The collection primarily focuses on media reaction to events in the later life of “The Liberator”. Sheila O’Connell Taipale lives in El Cajon, California and has presented her collection of documents including newspaper and magazine cuttings, a series of O’Connell family autographs, and some O’Connell-related pamphlets to the Kerry Archives.
This collection included coverage of Daniel O’Connell’s trial for sedition in 1844 and his subsequent death in 1847.
The documents are from the UK, America, France and Germany.
Mike Lynch who is an archivist with Kerry Library says the documents, which are available to the public, are significant:
