Reckless political rhetoric was a factor in the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the EU.
That is according to Leas Cathaoirleach of Seanad Eireann, Paul Coghlan.
The Killarney native says, when he was watching Boris Johnson and Michael Gove giving their post-referendum interviews, he was struck by their climb-down on a number of pledges they had made during the campaign.
He adds they saw the referendum as a way to cement their own power bases within the Conservative party.
The Senator believes the British electorate will soon realise they have been sold a pup-and that will become more evident in the weeks ahead.
