Radio Kerry has won a national award for its coverage of legal matters.
The station’s won a National Justice Media Award for the regular law feature on the Kerry Today programme, the Legal Lowdown.
Kerry Today presenter Jerry O’Sullivan and Tralee law lecturer and solicitor, Miriam McGillycuddy, were presented with their Justice Media Award in Dublin yesterday
They won the top award in the local radio category for the monthly Legal Lowdown feature.
The judges praised the programme for bringing important legal topics to listeners in a clear, consistent and accessible way.
Miriam and Jerry were praised for their coverage of serious matters including mortgage difficulties and wills.
The judges said the long-running slot provides advice and food for thought for those with legal problems and decisions to make.
Kerryman journalist, Marisa Reidy was awarded a merit certificate in the print court reporting category for her coverage of the Shane Fitzgerald trial and was praised for her highly skilled reporting with a strong emphasis on the human side of a harrowing case.
