The annual Radio Kerry Christmas Jumper Day in aid of the St Vincent de Paul is underway at workplaces throughout the county.
The event – where people wear their Christmas jumpers to work and donate €2 – hopes to beat last year’s effort and raise over €10,000 for the charity.
Last year, Tralee St Vincent de Paul spent over €470,000 helping families in need.
Junior Locke of the Tralee conference says the need is even greater this year.
Meanwhile, St Vincent de Paul volunteer at IT Tralee, Norma Lee, says some students are going without in order to attend college.
This year the college initiated its food bank to help students in need.
Norma Lee says student poverty is more prevalent than people believe.
