Queues of people are lining up outside Tralee’s Soup Kitchen, for up to an hour before the facility opens at 12 noon on Saturdays.
Dawn Roberts and Collette Price opened the facility four years ago at the height of the recession, with the aim of providing a hot meal once a week to Kerry people who were struggling.
They’re now providing meals to up to 90 people every Saturday, at Teach an Solas on Ashe Street.
More than a third of those are men, and volunteers believe that loneliness is a major reason why so many of them attend.
