The President of the Kerry Law Society sees no deficiency in the court poor box system.

This is a payment to avoid a conviction being recorded or a fine being imposed on a defendant.

Figures for 2015 show that the Tralee court office distributed €130,000 among 21 charities.

These ranged from missionary charities to local organisations.

Tralee-based solicitor Pat Mann says the court poor box works as a once off chance for someone not to be overly penalised.
