« BackPresident leads tributes to Irish Coast Guard member who died off Clare coast

Tributes are pouring in for Catriona Lucas, the volunteer Irish Coast Guard who lost her life off the coast of Clare yesterday.

President Michael D Higgins has written to express his condolences to the family of the 41 year old librarian.

The Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, Councillor Bill Chambers, has expressed “deep regret at the very tragic loss”.

A Book of Condolence will be opened from 2pm today at the Council Offices and from 10am tomorrow at the library in Ennistymon.

Ballybunion Sea and Cliff Rescue has been commended for its part in the rescue of coastguard personnel off the Clare coast yesterday.

Manager of the Irish Coast Guard, Declan Geoghegan has paid tribute to the Ballybunion unit, as well as Doolin Coast Guard for assisting in the recovery of the two survivors.
