There have been plans for several years to develop a new facility in the west Kerry town, and tens of thousands of euro has been fundraised for the project.
Am Spraoi, the Dingle Playground Group, was set up five years ago to campaign for a new playground, and has raised over €30,000 for it.
Plans by the group to open a playground on a site near Dingle harbour hit a stumbling block in 2014, as An Bord Pleanala ruled it was too close to a working harbour.
Am Spraoi, which represents parents in the town, then rejected plans put forward by Kerry County Council last year to develop a playground opposite the Dingle Aquarium, saying it was too far from the town’s residential area, and too exposed to severe weather conditions.
Am Spraoi has now submitted plans to Kerry County Council for a playground facility at Emlagh West, Dingle.
Submissions can be made until the 9th of August, and the council is due to make a decision by the 30th of August.
