The parents of inspirational Tralee teenager Donal Walsh have urged the government to get on with building the new children’s hospital as a priority.
Fionnbar Walsh, who campaigned for the new hospital to be built on the M50, says that now the decision has been made, this should be done without delay.
The Donal Walsh Livelife Foundation, founded in his memory, has donated over €300,000 to hospitals and mental health services for teenagers.
A €20,000 donation to University Hospital Kerry by the charity was used to purchase two monitors for the early detection of cancer in children.
Over 450 young people attended Donal’s third anniversary Mass, which was celebrated by the Papal Nuncio Dr Charles Browne in St John’s Church yesterday.
Mr Walsh said the first time a new children’s hospital was mooted was on the day they brought home their baby daughter Jema, almost 22 years ago.
