« BackParent calls for change in the law on seatbelts on school buses

A Kerry parent is calling for a change to the law that would make it compulsory for children to wear seatbelts on school buses.

Stuart Kelly from Rathmore says there is a perception among teenagers that it’s not ‘cool’ to wear a seat belt.

Bus Éireann says it asks their drivers to remind children to belt up but it’s not in its remit to force children to wear seatbelts.

There is no legal requirement for children to wear seatbelts on public transport.

But Mr Kelly told Kerry Today the situation is ‘crazy’ when seatbelts are fitted on buses and he’d like the law to be changed.
