Over one-and-a-half million euro has been allocated to the Kerry Fisheries Local Action Group.
This is part of a national allocation of €12 million announced by Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Michael Creed.
The funding is being made available to seven groups covering thirteen counties under the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund, which provides €240 million to the seafood sector up to 2020.
The programme, which is similar to LEADER, is co-funded by the Exchequer and the EU.
The groups are drafting strategies before they award grants to local people.
