The OPW has confirmed that there was a kerosene spill at a premises adjacent to the State owned Intreo office at Godfrey Place, Tralee, last Friday.
The Intreo office was closed early on Friday and remains closed due to the smell from the spill entering the building.
OPW staff have been working since Friday to establish the cause of the spill, to clean up and ventilate the Intreo office building to ensure that it is safe for occupation by staff and the public.
This work is ongoing but it is not yet clear when the office will re-open to the public.
Queries in relation to any potential impact on social welfare recipients should be directed to the Department for Social Protection.
The Intreo centre located at Edward Street, Tralee remains open.
