« BackOld Killorglin oak tree being turned into public sculpture

The Diaspora 1A 200-year-old diseased oak tree in Killorglin is being turned into a piece of public art that will go on display in time for this year’s Puck Fair.

Co Limerick-based artist Will Fogarty was contacted by Killorglin Tidy Towns Committee and commissioned to complete the piece entitled ‘The Diaspora’.

The sculpture depicts a young woman in 1940’s dress about to leave the train station in the town as countless emigrants have done from the area.

Sculptor Mr Fogarty says the piece is challenging but he hopes it will hold special significance for Killorglin people.

And we’ll have more on this story coming up later in our bulletin.
