Kerry Library does not have enough space if all school records for the county were returned.
That’s according to Kerry County Council which says there would also be space and resources issues with housing the records.
The council was responding to Fianna Fáil councillor Jimmy Moloney, who requested all school records be returned to Kerry.
The council said there would also be budgetary implications.
A small number of national school registers have been acquired by the council but the majority are stored in the National Archives where they can by inspected by the public.
