District courts in Kerry will no longer accept donations to the court poor box in cash.
Judge James O’Connor made the announcement, which will be effective in all courts in District 17, at Killarney District Court.
He said it’s unfair to expect court clerks to transport large amounts of cash from court sittings in Kenmare or Killarney to Tralee.
He added that from now on, all donations to the court poor box could only be made by cheque, bank draft or postal order.
Judge O’Connor also called for disclosure orders requested by solicitors to be furnished within two months.
He said if a matter was more complicated, the State could apply for another month’s adjournment.
