The new Communications Minister has given his backing to a major project proposed for north Kerry.
The Shannon LNG liquefied natural gas terminal is earmarked for the Tarbert-Ballylongford landbank but has been beset by delays.
A deputation travelled to Leinster House from Kerry to meet with Minister Denis Naughton.
This included Kerry TDs, members of Kerry County Council, MEP Sean Kelly and up to ten local people from Tarbert and Ballylongford.
The group outlined the multi-million-euro project and the benefits it would have for the region.
Fine Gael Deputy Brendan Griffin said the deputation presented a strong united approach and said Minister Naughten’s willingness to bring the project to fruition was refreshingly positive.
The Minister said he would attempt to seek a way forward for the project where tariffs are immaterial.
These proposed tariffs from the Energy Regulator are currently being examined by the Supreme Court.
