Blennerville’s new primary school will be ready to open after Christmas, following a campaign spanning almost two decades.
The new school, located on a site just behind the existing building, will welcome pupils when they return after the Christmas break on January 4th.
Back in 1996, the then principal of St Brendan’s primary school, Michael O’Connor, first began lobbying the Government for a new school to replace the exisiting building, which is now 80 years old.
Funding was eventually granted, allowing building to start just over a year ago.
Mr O’Connor, who is now retired, described the opening of the new building as great news for the area:
