An eminent NASA scientist is visiting Kerry next month to speak at the Skellig Star Party.
Mission Scientist Dr Kim Smith will address astronomers, professional and amateur, in Ballinskelligs between August 14th and 16th.
The weekend will also feature renowned UK astronomer Nick Howes.
Last year South West Kerry was named a Gold Tier International Dark-Sky Reserve.
The designation was made by the Arizona-based International Dark Sky Association and followed a two-year campaign by the Kerry Dark Sky Group.
Kerry is the only reserve with gold tier status in the Northern Hemisphere and the area involved covers the Iveragh Peninsula.
Between August 14th and 16th, the second Skellig Star Party is taking place and will include a talk by Mission Scientist with NASA, Dr Kim Smith.
Organiser of the Skellig Star Party, Dave Connolly, says securing the participation of the NASA scientist is a coop as she will be able to reveal more about the New Horizons Mission to Pluto.
