« BackMS drug to be reimbursed by HSE

Kerry South Independent TD Michael Healy-Rae has welcomed confirmation that MS drug Fampridine is to be reimbursed under the Long Term Illness Scheme.

Minister of State at the Department of Health Kathleen Lynch confirmed that Fampridine – also known by the brand name Fampyra – will be reimbursed by the HSE under the scheme from October 1st.
Fampyra is used to treat multiple sclerosis; reimbursement will be extended where a demonstration of clinical response is shown to persist, assessed at six-month intervals.
