« BackMoyvane man’s drugs operation was ‘cold, cunning and calculated’, court hears

Tralee CourthouseA 28-year-old Moyvane man, who used ‘novel methodology’ for his drugs enterprise has been jailed for one and a half years.

Martin Kennelly of Gortdromagowna, Moyvane pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis for sale or supply at Killarney Court Hotel on May 20th, 2014.

Judge Tom O’Donnell said Martin Kennelly’s activities were ‘cold, cunning, calculated and well disguised’ and he used a sophisticated modis operandi that was set up to make detection difficult.

He had arranged for the cannabis to be delivered to the Parcel Motel when he was detected by gardaí.

He was found to be in possession of over €39,000 worth of the drug.

Gardaí also discovered a number of mobile phones and a vacuum sealer he claimed he was using to pack cheese.

Tralee Circuit Criminal Court heard he had been evasive and argumentative when interviewed by gardaí.

Sentencing Kennelly to four years in prison, Judge O’Donnell took mitigating factors into consideration including the accused man’s early admission, his lack of previous convictions and strong family support.

He suspended the final two and a half years of the sentence for four years on condition he remain bound to the peace.
