Two Government Ministers met with Kerry’s Mayor Pat McCarthy and CEO of Kerry County Council Moira Murrell this week.
They were among local authority representatives nationwide updating Arts Minister Heather Humphreys and Local Government Minister Alan Kelly on the county’s plans for the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme.
The meeting comes at the end of a major programme of citizen engagement, which saw 81 workshops held nationwide to stimulate discussions and ideas on how local communities should commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising next year.
Kerry County Council’s policy for the 2016 Commemorations focuses on Banna, Ballykissane Pier and Valentia Island.
The council will also lead a number of programs including the key Roger Casement Exhibition at Kerry County Museum.
