Milltown and Rathmore Credit Unions are set to merge, creating a financial institution with almost 10,000 members.
It follows other mergers in Kerry, including Killorglin and Tralee, and Killarney and Kenmare credit unions.
Milltown Credit Union has 2,000 members; the Chair of its board Anthony Clifford welcomes the merger with what he calls the ‘like-minded’ credit union in Rathmore; he says it’ll make the organisations stronger for their membership.
Milltown Credit Union is briefing members at the Nagle Rice primary school in Milltown on Thursday at 8pm.
Rathmore Credit Union has 7,500 members; its manager Kieran Crowley also welcomes the merger; he agrees it’ll make the organisations stronger, and says more services will be available as a result.
There’s a meeting of Rathmore Credit Union members also on Thursday night at 8 o’clock in the Rathmore Community Centre.
The merger has yet to be finalised by ReBo – the independent body set up to facilitate and oversee the restructuring of credit unions.
