Minister of State with Special Responsibility for Defence, Paul Kehoe, will present the citations to over 60 former soldiers and their families at a ceremony in Custume Barracks in Athlone.

The event formally recognises the bravery of the soldiers 55 years after they were attacked while on UN duty in the region.

Abbeyfeale man, Tadhg Quinn, served as a corporal during the Siege, when a company of the 35th Infantry Battalion came under fire at their UN post at Jadotville.
