Speaking about the deal Mr Kelly, who is pictured here with Hoesung Lee, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, said “I am delighted to say we achieved a very ambitious, balanced deal which will protect our planet for future generations”.
Leaders from 195 countries signed up to the deal last night – it’s been heralded as an historic deal.
Efforts must now be made by all signatories to limit global warming to “well below” two degrees Celsius.
However concerns are being raised about whether or not Ireland can meet the targets set out in the Paris accord on climate change.
An Taisce’s John Gibbons says the Paris Accord – contains little detail on how the targets will be met.
And he says Ireland is already way behind on the issue:
